Why insulation performs differently in Northland

Northland sits in H1 climate zone 1, the mildest of the six. Winters are short, so the case for insulation here is as much about keeping summer heat out and managing humidity as it is about warmth. Blown loosefill fills the cavity evenly and gets into the awkward places batts leave open, which is where most of the heat actually goes.

New builds, Building Code H1

Northland sits in H1 climate zone 1, the mildest of the six. Winters are short, so the case for insulation here is as much about keeping summer heat out and managing humidity as it is about warmth.

H1/AS1 moved to its sixth edition on 27 November 2025 and the schedule method was removed, so required R-values now come from the calculation method rather than a fixed table. Read the R-value guide or use the insulation calculators to work out what your build needs.

Northland is in Healthy Homes zone 1. Every rental property must meet these minimums above and below all living spaces.
